Nicole Morella, MA is the Director of Public Policy and Communications for the NJ Coalition to End Domestic Violence. She has worked in the domestic violence field for 18 years providing education and technical assistance to improve community level and systemic responses to domestic violence. In her current role, Ms. Morella strives to elevate the needs and voices of survivors to increase safety for survivors, accountability for offenders, and a strong network of providers. She also works with the Communications Team to elevate the conversation about domestic violence and the role communities can play in preventing domestic and dating violence.

How to Screen for Domestic Violence

Gladys Martinez MSW, LCSW, NCTTP worked for several domestic violence shelters throughout New Jersey, eventually becoming Director of Shelter Services for a program in Union County. Ms. Martinez currently works at the University Hospital’s Women’s Health Clinic, Newark, where she provides assessment and counseling services to women and their families. Additionally she is a co-founder and the current chair of the University Hospital Coalition to End Abuse, whose mission is to raise awareness and train staff, students and the community on domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Understanding Domestic Violence and Strangulation

Danielle Francois, MPH is the Health and Outreach Coordinator for the Essex County Family Justice Center located in Newark New Jersey. In this role she frequently creates and provides trainings for medical providers, human service providers, and law enforcement on the individual and public health impacts of domestic violence and non-fatal strangulation. Ms. Francois also devotes some of her spare time to SAVE of Essex County where she volunteers as a Confidential Sexual Violence Advocate.

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of the program, the participants will self-report knowledge gain related to strangulation as an indicator for domestic violence and intent to change practice by including information or tools presented into professional practice.

Recognizing the Signs of Teen Dating Violence

Kristin Wald, MS, DVRT, an educator with experience in working with both teenagers and adults, has been a Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop Leader for Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates (SOFIA) since 2015. In this role, she leads discussions, shares information, and addresses concerns and questions regarding issues surrounding recognizing signs, helping others, helping oneself, and navigating the effects of intimate partner violence/domestic violence. Ms. Wald also serves as the Vice President of the Board for SOFIA.

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of the program, the participants will self-report knowledge gain related to screening for teen dating violence and intent to change practice by including information or tools presented into professional practice.
