Senior Accountant

LOCATION: Hybrid/ Newark, New Jersey            

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time / Exempt- 37.5 hours/week

ANNUAL SALARY:$60,000 – $65,000/year

JOB SUMMARY:

Manage all aspects of grant financing from budget conception and submission, variance analysis and communication with management.  Respond to funder inquiries and produce quarterly and year-end reports.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Communicate with managing directors to develop viable grant budgets that have input from program managers. Present all grant budgets to CFO and members of EMG for feedback and approval.  Submit approved budgets to funding agencies.

 

  • Monitor monthly financial performance of grants so that significant variances are identified early, reviewed with program managers and discussed with the CFO.

 

  • Facilitate monthly meetings with program directors to discuss grant budget performance.

 

  • Initiate budget modifications within flexible expense limits to capitalize on changes between spending and budget projections.

 

  • Manage all aspects of grant quarterly and annual financial reporting to funding agencies.

 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the finance departments of funding entities so that a rapport can exist.

 

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for Cash.

 

  • Assist CFO with managing the ABILA accounting system; ensure data backup.

 

  • Serve as lead staff for annual A-133 audit and IRS Form 990; interface with auditors and 990 tax preparer, develop schedules, and provide supporting documentation.

 

  • Handle other ad hoc assignments as requested.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   Work is performed in a variety of office, health care and community settings; may involve bending, color identification, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, lifting up to 35 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping and walking.  Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision.  The employee will attend meetings at a variety of places and will need to drive.  Occasional stair climbing is required.

 

WORK REQUIREMENTS:  There are no unusual work conditions.  Noise level at work is moderate.  The employee will experience outside weather conditions while in transit to and from meetings or during special events.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Five years of general ledger accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with non-profit accounting principles.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and prioritize competing assignments.
  • Self-starter who is proactive and can work independently.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and accounting software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
