The Partnership for Maternal and Child Health Elects New Board Chair

The Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Schwab, MD, MPH, as the new Board Chair. The Board of Trustees unanimously elected Dr. Schwab, a dedicated Trustee and committed public health advocate, on June 9, 2021 to a one-year term.

Dr. Schwab is an associate professor of pediatrics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark. Dr. Schwab practices primary care pediatrics at University Hospital in Newark. He sees infants, children, and adolescents in an academic practice where he teaches clinical pediatrics to medical students, residents, nursing, dental, and public health students. Dr. Schwab’s research interests include pediatric tobacco control, immunizations, and quality improvement. He also serves as Chair of the Essex Metro Immunization Coalition.

“I’m very proud of the great work the Partnership does to improve the health of women and children in our area. I’m looking forward to working with Mariekarl, the Board, and the staff to further our mission in the year ahead,” stated Dr. Schwab.

Dr. Schwab succeeds Michael A. Lamacchia, MD, of St. Joseph’s Health, who helped lead the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and a leadership transition during his tenure. Dr. Lamacchia will continue to serve on the Executive Committee as the Immediate Past Chair.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Schwab has accepted this position. His expertise in pediatrics will help shape our vision as we work to increase the number of people we serve across northern New Jersey,” stated Mariekarl Vilceus-Talty, the Partnership’s President and CEO. “I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding service of Dr. Lamacchia. With his guidance and support, the Partnership continued to thrive during one of our most challenging eras. We are grateful for his dedication.”

In addition to his role as the Chair for the Board of Trustees, Dr. Schwab will continue to lead the Partnership’s Essex Metro Immunization Coalition, which brings together healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, community groups, and dedicated individuals to increase access to vaccinations across Essex County.
